about

There are certain elements combined in this track, particularly the organ-like and bell-like instrumental sounds, that remind me of Catholic liturgical music, but there are others that have a sort of space opera connotation. This fits the track title, which hints at Catholic ritual but is really an abstraction used in classical physics. Understanding the way that real objects whose mass is distributed unevenly through irregular solid shapes requires complicated integral calculus, so, to simplify some calculations, objects that exhibit spherical summary are imagined as "point masses" with all their mass existing at an infinitesimal point at the center of the object. These imaginary objects are often depicted as featureless spheres in the illustrations of physics texts; this was an inspiration for the album cover.
